ROBBERS LOOT JEWELLERY WORTH RS 2 CR AT BIHTA

PATNA: Armed robbers looted two kilograms of gold and silver ornaments worth a total of Rs 2 crore from a jewellery shop at a busy market at Bihta in Bihar’s capital Patna Thursday morning, police said.

The incident took place around 9.45 am at Gupta Jewellers.

Shop owner Jitendra Gupta said he and his employees had just opened the shop when six robbers, with their faces covered, struck. Gupta said one of them hit him with pistol butt when he tried to resist the robbery bid. After looting valuables, they fled on two motor bikes while firing two shots in the air.

“We have obtained the CCTV footage and further investigat­ion is on,” said assistant superinten­dent of police (Danapur) Vinay Dheeman.

After the incident, irate locals and traders blocked the PatnaAra National Highway 30 near Kanhauli.

“The criminals are attacking people in general and targeting businessme­n in particular,” said state BJP spokespers­on Nikhil Anand.
