2 kids die as earth caves in near construction site

Two children were killed after a slice of earth near a road under construction caved in at a village in West Champaran of Bihar on Monday, police said.

“The incident occurred when the children, identified as Ravi Kumar (8) and his sister Priyanjali Kumari (9), were playing near a place where road construction was underway at Karmawa village,” said Abhay Kumar, SHO of Majhauliya police station.

Locals held the contractor responsible for the incident. “The contractor engaged in the road construction left the pit open. When the two children were playing, a slice of earth caved in and they were trapped. By the time they were rescued and rushed to the nearby hospital, they had died,” said a village resident.

Police were yet to register a case in this connection.
