An immersive prep process is a ‘stress buster’ for Ishwak

- Sugandha Rawal

For Ishwak Singh, shuffling between the shoots of five of his upcoming projects has been challenging. But, the actor ensures he does justice to each character by giving in his all to the respective prep processes. In fact, he finds this journey of getting into the skin of a character “calming” as an artiste.

“I love playing different characters as it makes me aware of a new culture and [becomes] a part of my own personality. Sometimes, it’s a stress buster, sometimes educational and often, therapeutic,” says Singh, who is currently shooting for the supernatural thriller Adhura, a comedy titled Bas Karo Aunty, the second season of Rocket Boys, another web series called Berlin and an untitled film.

The actor shares that it’s his “research and prep” for a particular role that have helped him switch characters so smoothly. “In between shoots or on off days, I kept going over my other scripts, scheduled readings and prepped... It (preparation) is required for me as an actor, and is also a huge part of the reason I love my work. This is when the foundation of the character is built,” he says.

It is through this process, Singh adds, that he gets to “understand the cardinal point of every character and how it resonates” with him. “In the absence of this [prep] journey, I see no point in going to a film set,” he ends.
