It’s difficult to make and sell commercial films: Adah Sharma

Adah Sharma feels that the recent navel show controversy in regional films doesn’t make sense

Actor Adah Sharma, who made her Hindi film debut with the 2008 horror flick 1920, is enjoying her stint in Southern films now. She says, “I have done films from every genre there — be it romance, action or thriller. When I initially started working, the language was foreign to me, because I don’t speak Telugu or Kannada. What has always helped me is that the critics and media both have been very kind to me, and the audience has been accepting too,” says the actor who also acted in Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), where she played the role of actor Sidharth Malhotra’s fiancee. Asked about the recent controversy over female actors in the South being subjected to midriff shows, and made to do suggestive dance moves, she says, “I haven’t done any films, which had any of this. So many southern films have been remade in Hindi in the past few years. People should respect cinema, and keep in mind the place it belongs to and the kind of audience it is catering to.” The ‘navel controversy’ was triggered by actor Taapsee Pannu when she made remarks about a leading Telugu director’s obsession with throwing fruits and flowers at the heroines’ midriff. Adah also says that making such commercial films is not as easy as people might think. “It is really difficult to make and sell such films. But the fact remains that these films

make money and people watch them to escape reality,” says Adah, who will be seen next in the action thriller Commando 3, which stars Vidyut Jammwal. The 28-year old is all praises for her co-star. She says, “I had worked with Vidyut in Commando 2 as well. Working with someone like him who is passionate about what he does is really great. He knows what he is doing, and in India, he’s one of the best when it comes to doing action films!”
