STYLE ALERT: NIGHTWEAR IS IN VOGUE

- Prerna Gauba

Here’s all you need to know about fashion’s newest obsession — nightwear, which is all the rage these days

Nightwear is not just to be worn in bed now! Lately, we saw slip dresses, once considered sleepwear, making a comeback. However, the sleepwear has become the latest streetwear. Due to the comfort level and effortless style, the trend continues to capture hearts, with celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Anna Kendrick, Rihanna, Gigi Hadid and Victoria Beckham embarrassing the trend. Even Bollywood divas such as Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut are all fans of the trend.

It is an unusual trend says, designer Nida Mahmood, “There was so much of serious fashion all around us that I think we needed a breather. And it became a huge fashion trend.” Fashion stylist Esha Amiin believes it is making a mark because of its relaxed approach and effortless style. “This pyjama trend could possibly be the most relaxed approach to style yet,” she says. But stylist Maneka Harisinghani, feels it will be an ephemeral trend. “The trend is interesting but definitely [it will be]shortlived, in my opinion it’s an off shoot as not all can pull this off,” she says.

THE PYJAMA FASHION TREND HAS SLOWLY BEEN MAKING ITSELF KNOWN ON RUNWAYS, RED CARPETS AND STREETS

HOW TO STYLE IT RIGHT

The pyjama fashion trend has slowly been making itself known on runways, red carpets and streets. However, stylists feel it is a casual one suited for just informal occasions, “It’s casual and most appropriate for informal occasions,” Harisinghani adds. The trend is all about just being stress free. “Style your night suit trend with fun dusters and sports shoes. Try casual blazers over the night suit look or just wear a night suit top with skirts or jeans,” suggests Mahmood. It’s not as easy as it seems, if you are planning to take this bedroom attire outdoors without looking slovenly. “Use the right footwear and don’t over accessorise this sporty chic. And athleisure is the vibe to be in,” suggests Amiin. Wondering, if the trend would work on your bodytype? This trend is for the tall and lean only, however, girls with curvy bodies can try a variation by going for a long upper with big prints.
