I REALLY WISH SIDHARTH WELL: VARUN

Varun Dhawan says there’s “no truth” to talks about his tiff with Sidharth Malhotra

- Prashant Singh

Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra made their acting debut together with Student Of The Year (2012), and stories of their bromance followed. But then came reports of their friendship going sour. We catch up with Varun, who’s on a career high with backto-back 100 crore hits — Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Judwaa 2 in 2017.

Murmurs about you and Sidharth not being on good terms refuse to die down… There is nothing [like that]. Such talks have no truth at all. I really wish him well [for Ittefaq]. I’ve heard that it’s going to be an amazing film. I really hope that it does well [at the box office] and becomes a bigger hit than Judwaa 2. I hope every film does well, and why shouldn’t they?

Were you ever scared about featuring in Judwaa’s (1997) rebooted version? During the initial days, before the shoot started, I was a bit [anxious]. But then I always feel butterflies [in the stomach before a film]. I wouldn’t say it was more this time.

How’s your father (David Dhawan) as a director? Did you get scolded? Yes, he does that (laughs). But I pretty much follow all his instructions because in any case, I am very strict about my own work and performance.

I really hope that Ittefaq (Sidharth’s upcoming film) does well [at the box office] and becomes a bigger hit than Judwaa 2 VARUN DHAWAN, ACTOR

Till ’90s, actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan would talk their heart out. But now, everyone has to watch what they speak, especially with the advent of social media. Do you miss that? Obviously, but not in a very personal manner. As a kid, I have seen that era as well when there was no internet. I was around. But there are a lot of great things [too] that have come out of social media. So, you have to give it credit for that.

A few reports stated that you will star in Prabhudheva’s next, Rana From Haryana? I am a big fan of Prabhu sir, the actor, director and dancer. But this story is totally fictional. There’s no truth [to talks about such films]. As of now, I am only doing [the films] October and Sui Dhaaga.
