The actor shared a photo on Instagram from his hospital bed on Friday, revealing that he had to have surgery after tearing his ACL ligament while snowboarding. “I tore my ACL shredding the gnar but all is good. I opted for surgery so I can come back stronger than ever. Thank you to Dr. Kvitne and his team. I’ll keep you updated as I heal and progress! The actor’s upcoming film is not just being screened at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival but she has also been featured in the Berlinale Breakouts as one of five talents to look out for by The Hollywood Reporter. Sanya’s initial reaction to making it to the list was not that of exhilaration, rather she was quite unfazed by it. The reason — she didn’t realise that it was a big deal. “I didn’t know how to react. I was travelling and when I landed in Mumbai I got a Whatsapp message from Radhika (Madan; actor). She sent me a cut out of the article. I thought, ‘nice’. I didn’t know that it’s a very big deal. My mother was so excited about it and others started congratulating me. It was then that I realised that it is very important,” she says. Photograph, directed by Ritesh Batra, will be screened on February 13 at Berlinale, in Berlin, and it had its world premiere at the recentlyconcluded Sundance Film Festival, in USA. “When I am appreciated like this, it obviously feels great. After that [list] came out, I am now feeling very stressed about attending the festival,” says Sanya with a laugh. The actor calls the project, which also stars actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, very close to her heart and says that she is looking forward to seeing audiences’ reaction at the film festival. So, besides attending the film festival, what else is she looking forward to do in the German capital? “I want to see the Berlin Wall. But I will only be there for two days as I have to come back and start shooting for my next film (an Anurag Basu directorial). Hopefully, I will get some time to go around and see some places. If not, I will definitely go back some time. For now, my film is my priority there,” she says. Reportedly, Moland defended Neeson at a press conference saying he is not racist. He said: “He is a very honest, he is a very decent, grounded man.” IANS mein hota hai. Raat ko ullu jaagtein hain. This [waking up early] is what our shastras teach us. It’s written in our shastras — wake up early, work in the day time, have dinner before sunset and sleep on time. interview: expensive? One can easily make a good film with ₹25-35 crore budget. I don’t know where things are going wrong. Now, budgets go up to ₹80, ₹90 and even over ₹100 crore sometimes. But yes, if a film genuinely needs such a high budget, like 2.0 (2018), then there’s no problem. You can see that investment on screen. Prashant Singh I am off the entire June and after every film, I take six days off. On top of that, I only work half days on Saturdays and don’t work at all on Sundays. Usmein bhi I don’t give more than 8 hours to any producer. B e it his impeccable film choices, steady success rate or fit-as-a-fiddle avatar, Akshay Kumar seems to have it all sorted. And one thing that unfailingly comes up in conversations with him, is his perfect time management that enables him to do three to four films a year. But the superstar — who has five big releases in 2019 — plays it down. “Honestly, there’s no science to how I function. It’s very simple,” says the actor, who is excited about “mixing up” his film choices as he “constantly want to do something fresh.” We caught up with Akshay to understand how he manages to pack in (so many) things within 365 days. Excerpts from an To start with, how do you manage to do so many films and also balance your personal life? Others from the film industry clearly can’t do that! It’s very simple. I will tell you the mathematics of it all. To start with, I must tell you that I am off the entire June and that’s one whole month. So, I am left with only 11 months. And after every film, I take six days off. On top of that, I only work half days on Saturdays and don’t work at all on Sundays. Usmein bhi I don’t give more than eight hours to any producer. Even if you invest 45 days in a film, how much time will four films take? 180 days. So, out of 365 days, if you work for roughly 180 days, you will easily finish four films Clearly, you are part of a very rare club… A lot of times, people ask me, ‘you wake up so early’. I think I should be asking them instead, ‘you sleep so late in the night’. So many people wake up early. If you wake up at 4.30am or 5am, you will notice so many people going for their work. I feel jinko mitti ki khushboo acchi lagti hai aur jinhein paison ki ahamiyat samajh mein aati hai woh utthte hain jaldi subah. Also, your habit of waking up very early in the morning — and even having meetings/narrations in the mornings — has become a thing of legends by now… AKSHAY KUMAR, ACTOR SANYA MALHOTRA’S UPCOMING FILM IS NOT JUST BEING SCREENED AT THE PRESTIGIOUS BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL BUT SHE HAS ALSO BEEN FEATURED IN THE BERLINALE BREAKOUTS AS ONE OF FIVE TALENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR BY THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER Did you go to the school in the night? So, the habit [of waking up early in the morning] has undergone a change because of an individual’s choice. Our parents and teachers taught us the correct thing but we have ruined that habit. Is there anyone special in your life right now or are you crushing on someone? A Someone who would understand me and my work. She should be smart and intelligent. As my work is full of hectic schedules, gossip, rumours, so she should be capable of understanding all these things as well. ctor Shashank Vyas’ growing popularity and, especially, his increasing female fan following is quite evident. And one question that fans always have on their mind is: Who is the Balika Vadhu actor dating? The TV actor shares that he is in love with his work at the moment and will only settle down when he finds the right partner. And yes marriage is on his mind, as he wants to take the next step soon. Excerpts: No, as I have said, this V-day, I don’t know what to do. I don’t have any crushes as of now. I guess I have passed that stage. Candy floss romance doesn’t turn me on. My work and career are my love at the moment. I go to gym, then shoot, and then come back home — that’s the only life I know of as a daily soap actor. I’m looking forward to love happening sometime soon. There were speculations about you dating actors Shivani Surve and Adaa Khan... They were just rumours. Shivani is a good co-star and Adaa is a good friend. There is nothing more to it. I make proper use my two ears for such rumours — listen everything through one, and let it out through the other. I have better things to focus my energies on. Are you okay with dating someone from the industry? Are you planning to settle down anytime soon? I have no such inhibitions. We, both, as individuals should feel the connect and enjoy each other’s company, and nothing else matters. In a relationship, nothing scares me. Everything comes as a part and parcel of life. If I am scared, I will not be able to enjoy being in love. I am in love with my career. I surely want to fall in love. I also want to have my ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ moment but for that I need to find the right girl, jisko dekh ke dil mein baje guitar. I am single this Valentine’s Day too (laughs). I finished my studies, and when I came back, I did a film with Amitabh Bachchan called Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap (2011). Then I did films down South, some big films in the Telugu film industry. For a few years, I was busy with that. That’s when maturity started prevailing, and I realised I needed to be in Mumbai for network and for people to know I am around. Or people would think ‘she has gone back’.” Sonal is busy with a Hindi and a web project. “I can say I have a slightly better understanding now but I wouldn’t go as far as saying I understand it now,” says Sonal, on whether she understands the ways of Bollywood now. Asked what challenges she faced till now, without going into the specifics, she shares, “There’s no challenge as such in only the film industry, overall in life too, everybody has some challenge.” Rishabh Suri A ctor Sonal Chauhan shot to fame with her very first film, Jannat (2008), opposite actor Emraan Hashmi, but she slowed down on the number of films after that.
