‘Newcomer or star, your work is displayed side-by-side on OTT home page’

Actor Adah Sharma lauds the way OTT platforms are pushing good content, with focus on performances and not on those starring in a project. “We’ve been talking about how a story is the hero for long, but in films it often doesn’t happen. OTT, however, is doing exactly that. And this approach has redefined the kind of content that’s being favoured and loved,” says the actor, whose web shows Pati Patni Aur Panga and The Holiday garnered much praise. Some have expressed concern regarding how stars venturing into the web space might disrupt the balance it has created by diminishing the star-actor divide. Sharma, however, feels, “OTT is one place where everyone is given an equal platform. Whether you’re the biggest star or a rank newcomer, on OTT home page everyone’s work is displayed side-by-side for the audience to choose from. It’s not like theatres, where only big films with stars or star kids would get maximum timing.” Commending the digital medium further, Sharma says it has exposed many people to world content. “And that has changed our taste for better. Now the audience wants real and entertaining stuff. If you can’t hold their interest, you lose the game,” adds Sharma. Reacting to the theatre-ott debate, the actor says she, too, is looking forward to cinemas being fully functional again. “Who doesn’t want their film to release on the big screen…? The 70mm charm is unmatchable. Also, the industry employs many people, they also need to go back to work. At the same time, OTT has given us hope in such difficult times,” she adds. Adah Sharma
