I don’t think I took any risk then by taking up web projects: Radhika

One of the few actors who took up OTT projects when the medium was in a nascent stage in India, Radhika Apte is happy to see how far the platform has come, especially after 2020 propelled it to newer heights. “How could I envisage that it would become as big as it has today? Also, I don’t think I took any risk at that time. The platform which my project was coming on was huge and it was just launching in India. I wasn’t worried about the platform. I was more worried about the content,” she shares. Many in the industry had the belief that actors were taking up OTT projects because of a dearth of roles in Bollywood, but that perception has since changed. However, Apte never bothered with such a thought process, and says, “I don’t care about people’s opinions, I don’t even know their opinions.” The actor, who has done web projects such as Sacred Games and Raat Akeli Hai (2020), says that for her, it has always been more about the Juhi Chakraborty quality of the project. “If I like the content, I’d do it,” says Apte, who recently starred in Hollywood film A Call to Spy. The 35-year-old lauds digital platforms saying, “It has generated a lot of employment... OTT platforms give an equal opportunity to small and big films. The audience has an equal opportunity to choose what they want to watch.” Apte, who has been in London, UK, since the lockdown began last year, is looking forward to resume shooting her projects in India. “I had done a series last year, which will come out this year. Other than that, it has been a long wait for me in terms of work, but I think that was somewhat required. I am going to come back to India now and will start shoots right away,” she concludes.
