Learnt consistency and discipline from my parents, says Sikandar

Actor Sikandar Kher has seen his share of ups and downs in the film industry. While he started off with critically acclaimed projects such as Woodstock Villa (2008) and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010), it was only recently with his web show, Aarya, that the actor received recognition on the commercial front as well. And Sikandar credits his parents — actors Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher — for inculcating the required discipline and consistency in him in order to be successful.

“This is something I learnt early on in my life because of both my parents. I can proudly say that I am what I am today because of them,” says Sikandar, whose upcoming projects include the American action thriller, Monkey Man, and the Hindi web series, Chidiya Udd.

An early advice he received from his father, which has remained stuck with him ever since, is ‘kaam karte raho, kaam se hi kaam milta hai’ (keep working, and more work will follow). “The importance of respecting work, irrespective of how big or small, and doing it to the best of your potential without giving up [is what my father has taught me]”, the 40-year-old shares.

As for his mother, the actor says he has learnt and imbibed the value of time from her. “She always made sure that I learnt the discipline of being punctual for everything. It was and still is inspiring to see her work every day, and do it the utmost honesty and commitment,” gushes the actor.

That being said, Sikandar mentions that he’d like to believe his driving force comes from within. “My parents do what they do, but I also get inspiration from myself when I’m following a good routine and seeing results. That starts encouraging me further. The work that I put in, be it at work or in a workout, that is what inspires me,” the actor ends.
