WHY OTT SCORES OVER FILMS FOR THESE TV ACTORS

When I took up my first OTT project, Shubh Mangal Mein Dangal, I knew that it would give me the opportunity to showcase myself in a different light. Often when you do TV for too long, an image gets formed about you as an actor. And then films are a different ball game altogether. So, I feel that the digital space is the perfect middle ground for actors.

When I signed my first web show, The Socho Project, I knew it was going to be novel because the role that I play is that of a musician, something for which I had to prep hard. I have never got this kind of role in television or in films. The opportunity itself was so exciting. And that has been consistent with all the work that is coming my way in the digital space. For me, web is the new big

thing for actors.

I was focusing on my career as a DJ for all these years; that is why I have been absent from the TV scene. But now I want to restart my acting career and I have seen the potential of OTT platforms in the past two years. I am looking forward to take up projects on the web. There is no point waiting for films to happen when I can see that I will be given the chance to reinvent myself on web.

I have done TV, films as well as OTT with Rudra: The Edge of Darkness. I can easily say that on the digital medium, there are definitely more opportunities, simply because of so many active platforms. So, there is a mix of quality and quantity on the web.

Bollywood are not there when it comes to OTT platforms. Here’s what some actors have to say about why they feel the web space is more accepting towards them than the Hindi film industry.

If you look at the web scene today, you will notice that there are actors who never got a chance to prove themselves in Bollywood. I do feel that the web platform is far more democratic. And then on top of that, the content that is being made is path breaking. I feel that, for an actor like me, doing a web project is a win-win situation.
