SRIGANGANAGAR: An inquiry team, constituted by the state women commission, has found the charges of sexual harassment of girl students in a private B Ed college here true.

The inquiry team, comprising deputy director, Integrated Child Development Scheme, Rachna Bhatia and general manager, District Industries Centre, Manju Nain Godara, in its report submitted to district collector RS Jakhar has recommended action against the college.

The team recently visited Mata Gujari B Ed College, situated along Mirzewala Road, and recorded statements of the students.

Thereafter, some guardians also met Bhatia and gave additional information about the harassment and humiliation by the college management and staff.

As per reliable sources, the college students have confirmed their harassment and insult in the inquiry report.

One girl student told the inquiry team that physical training instructor Gurdeep Singh Bhuttar made gestures to her several times, which were “indecent and immoral”.

It was also mentioned that the college management arbitrarily imposed penalty on the students.

They were threatened to be given less internal marks.

Having been absent on health ground, a student was first imposed heavy penalty and when she could not pay, she was subjected to humiliation and insult in the presence of other fellow students.

The principal reportedly threw away her file.

Unable to cope up with continued humiliation and public insults, she went into depression.

Her guardians are getting her treated at a hospital after abandoning her studies.

In the report, the inquiry team stated that many students were absent between March 24 to March 29, but no entry was made against their names in the attendance register.

Had these students been present in the college and their statements recorded, many more truths could have been unearthed, the panel members mentioned.

Inquiry officer Bhatia refused to divulge contents of the report, but said report is being forwarded to the state women commission through the district administration.
