Mamata Banerjee’s run-in with the Election Commission was uncalled for
With reference to
April 9), West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to defy an Election Commission (EC) order of transferring eight officials was uncalled for. Though later her government complied with the EC’s order, this incident exposes Banerjee’s dictatorial style of functioning. At a time when the Western media are heaping praises on the EC for conducting free and fair polls in the world’s largest democracy, this whole controversy was unnecessary. The EC is one of the strongest pillars of democracy and is one institution the country is proud of.
