ALWAR: Former MP and central minister Jitendra Singh said that the Congress party would oppose the proposal of the state government to merge two medical colleges in Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College and Hospital.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday afternoon, Jitendra Singh said ESIC Medical College and Hospital is about to be completed.

It has been made by the central government with an investment of more than `1,200 crore, he added.

After this one medical college was sanctioned by the centrallysponsored scheme - establishment of new medical college - attached with district/referral hospitals.

Under this scheme, 75% cost will be met by central government and states were expected to meet remaining 25% of the cost.

The medical college had been estimated at `189 crore.

After this, he persuaded the then Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot to sanction another medical college for Alwar. Accepting my request, he declared another medical college in Alwar while presenting state budget.

He said now the central government is planning to hand over ESI Medical College and Hospital to state government. The state government proposed to merge both medical colleges into ESI Medical College and Hospital.

It is a pity that central government has already sanctioned `189 crore this year, he added. Land has already identified in Ghegholi village for the state medical college.

If the state government implements the planning, then it will be a great loss for the people of Alwar district.

Jitendra Singh threatened the state government not to implement the planning else Congress will oppose the government move with full strength.

He said reality is that state government is inefficient in running medical colleges. It has no doctors to run medical colleges and hospitals.
