JAIPUR: Resident doctors of Sawai Man Singh Medical College have threatened to go on a strike from Monday if the Rajasthan government failed to suspend the head of the hospital’s neurosurgery department.

Post-graduate students had lodged a complaint against Dr RS Mittal with the college principal saying that they were being constantly bullied by Mittal.

The students said they were under tremendous mental pressure and suffering from depression as result.

The Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD), which has taken up the matter, said three students are on antidepressant medicines due to Mittal’s alleged bullying.

“We spoke to the health minister on Friday evening and apprised him about the complaint against Dr Mital and demanded for his suspension,” said JARD president Dr Rajvendra Choudhary.

“The minister has asked the medical college principal to form a committee and investigate the matter, but our demand is to first suspend Dr Mittal and then investigate,” he said.

“We will wait for two days, if Dr Mittal is not suspended then the residents would be forced to go on strike from Monday,” he added.

Choudhary said, Mittal used to issue notices demanding explanations from the students if they were absent and frequently changed the duty roosters.

Asked about the complaint against him, Mittal said, “I do not have any information of any complaint against me or demand to suspend me.”
