NEW DELHI: The BJP on Friday hit out at West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee over her “coup” chargeatthearmy, callingheraccusation as highly “deplorable and objectionable”.

The ruling party said no sane politician, and certainly not a constitutional head, has ever levelled such serious charges on the Indian Army. “The unnerved mind has given way to hallucination, which certainly requires medical care,” said BJP secretary Sidhrath Nath Singh.

He added, “A routine exercise beingmadeintoacontroversy.Such behaviour of Mamata Banerjee cannot be attributed to her maverick nature. The demonetisation has certainlyunnervedandrattledher.”

Also party’s co in-charge for West Bengal, Singh said the reason behind Mamata’s irrational accusation was the fact that on the midnight of November 8, she lost crores of unaccounted money earned through various chit fund companies and illegal activities of TMC patronised syndicates.

Listing out a series of her statements, Singh said Mamata first called demonetisation a financial emergency and then demanded a complete rollback.

“She said united opposition will march to President, however, there were few takers in the opposition ranks.Shethreatenedof riotsinthe country and gave 72-hour deadline to the Prime Minister,” Singh said.

The BJP leader recalled that she held dharnas in UP and Bihar, and alleged conspiracy of her being eliminated by not allowing her aircraft to land on a low fuel. Recent, he said, and the worst is creating a panic that there is an attempt of an army coup.

The BJP said it was unfortunate that Indian Army had to come up with a proof that they had informed the Bengal administration much ahead of their routine drill.
