THE LODHA PANEL HAS RECOMMENDED THE APPOINTMENT OF EXHOME SECRETARY, GK PILLAI, AS OBSERVER

NEW DELHI: Its top office-bearers face ouster due to the non-compliance of the Justice RM Lodha Committee reforms, but the Indian cricket board on Friday maintained its opposition to the directives.

With three days to go for the next hearing in the Supreme Court, the BCCI called a special general meeting of its permanent members, but said most of its members backed the opposition of the sports body to key administrative changes directed by the panel.

“We explained the situation and clarified again,” said BCCI secretary, Ajay Shirke. “They reiterated the stand we had taken in the first Special General Meeting. Almost all recommendations have been agreed upon except a few. (So) we will wait for December 5 (hearing).”

All state units barring three --- Hyderabad, Vidarbha and Tripura, who are implementing the Lodha panel recommendations in full as directed by the Apex court --- have backed BCCI’s stand on its refusal to implement reforms like ‘one state, one vote’, ‘one man, one vote’ and the age limit of 70 to hold office.

The Lodha panel, in its third status report, has recommended the removal of office-bearers and the appointment of former union home secretary, GK Pillai, as observer to run the BCCI and also oversee its mega contracts.

The Lodha panel has said it would not get into the daily administration of the body. IPTL
