Kin attack police team, force them to free ‘drug peddler’

The station house officer of Dhorimanna police station along with seven other police officers and staff were allegedly roughed up by the relatives of a drug peddler they had arrested from Lalji Ki Dungari village on Tuesday.

Two of the injured policemen had to be hospitalis­ed.

The assaulters also forced the policemen to free the peddler.

Confirming the incident, Mohanlal Gyana, assistant sub inspector at Sarwana police station, said Mangilal Bishnoi was wanted in several Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances Act, 1985 cases and police have been trying to nab him for a while. On Tuesday, Dhorimanna police got a tip off that he will be visiting his native town for a wedding . Bishnoi also has a case of jail break against him in Gujarat.

“The team reached the wedding ceremony around 10pm and arrested Mangilal. Halfway towards the police station, around 40-50 people, including 20 women, blocked the way and started pelting stones at the van. The policemen could not control the mob and had to shield themselves from the attack. The assaulters them forced the cops to free Mangilal and fled with him,” Gyana said.

“The team somehow managed to escape the spot and reached Sarwana police station. The officers there made medical arrangemen­t for them and later filed an FIR against Mangilal Bishnoi and 40 others,” he added.

Meanwhile deputy superinten­dent of police at Gudamalani Circle, Ram Niwas visited the area on Wednesday to take stock of the situation.
