Ace badminton player and Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu appears to have decided to settle down in Andhra Pradesh capital Amaravati after accepting a Group-I officer’s job offered by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Sources close to her family said Sindhu gave her acceptance letter to the Andhra Pradesh government during her recent visit to Vijayawada to attend the National Women’s Parliament held at nearby Amaravati, which is coming up as the state’s new capital. Authorities are now working out the formalities.

The 21-year-old Sindhu, the world No 5, lives in Hyderabad and trains at Pullela Gopi- chand’s badminton academy at Gachibowli.

When contacted, Sindhu’s mother P Vijaya confirmed Sindhu has accepted the offer. “She was given the job offer by the Andhra government during her felicitation at Vijayawada, immediately after her return from the Rio Olympics. When she went to the National Women’s Parliament on Febru- ary 10 and 11, she gave the consent letter,” she told Hindustan Times.

Vijaya, however, said it was not yet clear what the nature of the job was. “Sindhu will take a call after she gets the appointment order. After all, it should not affect her game and she has a long way to go in her career. But she has to settle down one day. We understand it is a very good offer, and since Sindhu is still young, I think it will definitely help her,” her mother added.

Sources said the AP government is likely to offer a post in the rank of Deputy Collector, a Group-I post. If Sindhu does take it up, there is a possibility of her being conferred with IAS in eight-nine years, the sources said.
