Using colours as ‘potent medium’ against drug abuse among kids
AJMER: She felt for them whenever she saw children using drugs and decided to do something for them. Beginning 3.30am on Saturday, Manan Chaturvedi, the chairperson of the state commission for protection of child rights (SCPCR), painted non-stop for 24 hours to spread awareness against the drug abuse among children.
A large crowd turned up to appreciate the gesture.
“It is my endeavour to convey parents to spend qualitative and quantitative time with their children, so that they do not drift to drugs or any other vices,” Chaturvedi says.
“It has been found that over a majority of drug addicts take to the path when found neglected from their families or do not get support from them at time of distress,” she added.
In all, she painted 56 paintings to convey her massage.
At the end of the programme, Chaturvedi administered an oath to a few students to never let drugs enter in their lives under any circumstances and to spread awareness among their peers.
“Colour is the most potent medium to express and children love colour the most,” Chaturvedi says.
“My 24-hour painting spree has made 13 children to shun drug addiction,” she claims. “We (at SCPCR) are making efforts to make local administration understand the problems of drug addicts and address the problem accordingly,” the SCPCR chief says.
When questioned has the administration failed in its duty to check the drug menace, Chaturvedi says, “Neglect is not the proper word, but I would say ‘carelessness’ on their part in handling the problem.”
