JAIPUR:Yaman Agarwal (18) was 14 when he hesitantly showed his father the videos on cooking he had been secretly making for the past few months and uploading on YouTube, an online platform for posting and sharing videos.

His father’s response, he said, was enthusiastic and since then the Hyderabad lad has made 270 videos for his YouTube channel CookingShooking that has more than 4.2 lakh subscribers.

Agarwal was one of the five content creators for YouTube that visited Jaipur on Tuesday as part of YouTube’s #SeeSomethingNew campaign.

Under the campaign, YouTube is showcasing some of its best content creators, said Satya Raghavan, head of entertainment content, YouTube India.

The campaign has selected eight creators–two from food, two from technology, three from music and one from comedy– and is taking them to cities across India.

For Sahil Khattar, who makes comedy videos for BeingIndian , internet means freedom.

“With right-wing governments coming to power in countries, the world is moving towards a regressive tomorrow and it’s affecting entertainment. There is increased censorship in Indian cinema. Internet is free and democratic and the more you try to muzzle it the more it will grow,” he said.

Khattar hails from Chandigarh, started making videos with a digital media company in 2011 for YouTube after leaving his radio jockey job.

He said his quirky and candid videos, which comprise streetvideos, are about showing the ‘real’ to the people, as opposed to the scripted content on television and cinema.

Another content creator Ranjit Kumar, who does video reviews of gadgets, said he loves engagement with his subscriberbase the most.

“If I don’t post a video on some day, people text me to ask if I am sick,” says Kumar, who owns the YouTube channel GeekyRanjit that has more than seven lakh subscribers.

A freelance programmer by profession he started making videos part-time in 2011 but two years later started making videos for his channel full-time. He reviews gadgets on user requests. Working alone until now, he recently bought an office space to expand his team.
