CLEANLINESS DRIVE Adityanath issues directives after seeing stained walls at the Annexe

The chief minister asked the officials to stop consuming paan and gutkha in government buildings stressing the need to keep office premises neat and clean

Giving a further push to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cleanliness campaign, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday ordered ban on chewing of gutkha, paan and use of plastic in government buildings and offices.

He issued the instructions after seeing stained walls during his visit to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhavan (Annexe) building.

“The chief minister asked the officials to stop consuming paan and gutkha and using polythene in government buildings stressing the need to keep office premises neat and clean,” deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya who was with the CM told the mediapersons. He said the cleanliness drive would begin with the Annexe.

Having met senior administrative and police officers, Adityanath drove straight to the Annexe around noon. He first inspected all the five floors, interacted with the staff and also took feedback from them.

The Annexe used to house the chief minister’s office on the fifth floor till a few months ago after which the office was shifted to the Lok Bhavan.

Earlier, senior officers, including chief secretary Rahul Bhatnagar, DGP Javeed Ahamad and ADG, law and order, Daljit Chaudhary, met Adityanath at the VVIP guest house in the morning. The chief minister is learnt to have asked the officials to prepare an action plan to crack down on illegal slaughterhouses in the state.

Meanwhile, the chief minister is holding meetings with ministers at the Lok Bhavan in the evening where he is expected to pass on to them the instructions he received from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah whom he met in Delhi on Tuesday. Deputy chief ministers, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma have been given chambers on the fifth floor in the Annexe. Maurya has occupied the chamber that used to be chief minister’s chamber and Sharma has been given a chamber, which was earlier used by Anita Singh, principal secretary to the outgoing chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
