A leopard strayed into Sendra village, about 150 kilometre from Jodhpur, on Thursday morning leaving locals in panic.

The female leopard injured a forest guard who was trying to convince people to keep away from the animal. The big cat also attacked a cow.

A forest department team from Jodhpur tranquillized the leopard around noon and caged it.

Dr Shrawan Singh Rathore, who was in-charge of the rescue operation, said that leopards are found in the surrounding hills of Sendra village. He said that the forest guard received injuries on his hand. After attacking the cow, the leopard climbed a tree and then moved under a flyover on the highway, Rathore added.

The leopard, too, had suffered injuries and was taken to Jodhpur. The animal will be released into the forest after treatment.

Last month, an angry mob had set a leopard on fire after it was suspected of killing a man and feeding on his body in Madhogarh. In the recent past, cases of man-animal conflict have been on the rise in the state.
