Badree’s hattrick goes up in smoke
Samuel Badree made his Royal Challengers Bangalore debut in a very special way as he effected a hat-trick against Mumbai Indians on Friday. West Indies leg-spinner Badree dismissed Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma in the third over to complete his hat-trick -- the first one of the 2017 season. It is the 15th hattrick of the IPL in its 10th year.
Samuel Badree’s effort reduced Mumbai Indians to 7/4 after Royal Challengers scored 142/5 in the first innings.
Badree had missed the 2016 IPL due to injury, and on Friday made his debut for the Royal Challengers. He came in place of Australian pacer Billy Stanlake.
After Royal Challengers were out for a paltry score of 142/5, the Virat Kohli-led side needed something magical to turn the match in their favour. And Badree did just that for Royal Challengers in the third over.
He bowled a googly at Parthiv on the second ball of the third over. The Mumbai Indian batsman wanted to lift the ball over short-extra cover but mistimed, and Gayle caught the ball.
Next up was McClenagahan, who heaved Badree’s low full toss to long-on but was caught by Mandeep Singh for a duck.
Mumbai Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was next. Again Badree tried a googly at off-stump, and it was enought to fox the star batsman. The gap between bat and pad was too big as Rohit was bowled for a duck. Badree finished with figures of 4-1-9-4, with Nitish Rana being his fourth scalp. Badree, thus, became the 12th bowler to claim a hat-trick in IPL. Amit Mishra has taken hat-trick thrice, while Yuvraj Singh has taken two hat-tricks.
