of terror. We’ll boycott the exams if this continues. Some people might have made mistakes but it does not mean that the SOG will pick up anyone for questioning,” said the teacher.

Jayant Singh, an associate professor at the department of statistics and president of Rajasthan University Teachers’ Association (RUTA), said that the association has called a meeting on Monday.

“As of now our call to boycott

It was quite an unlikely sight near the house of Kamlesh Regar in Bundi district of Rajasthan on Sunday morning.

Wedding preparations for the 23-year-old were in full swing and amidst an air of mirth and excitement that surrounded his family, over 50 police personnel stood guard -- unlikely ‘baraatis’.

It all started when Regar decided to break an age-old caste-based tradition and ride a mare, instead of a motorcycle, en route to his wedding venue, as was the practice in the village.

“The family members of Regar had told the police that they were facing subtle threats from other villagers because of his decision to ride a mare. They alleged that the threats were because Regar is from a scheduled caste,” said NR the exams (from invigilation to evaluation) is final,” said Singh.

BD Rawat of All Rajasthan University Teachers’ Association agreed with Singh and said, “The SOG comes and says you have been named by so and so and you have to come with us. The SOG hasn’t been able to establish even the money trail.”

“They should first take permission from the university administration before questioning a professor,” said Rawat.

The university administration could not be reached for a comment.

The SOG, however, said that they are questioning only those against whom they have evidence. “We are not questioning everyone. We have been following the case for 1.5 months and have electronic and documentary evidence against those we have questioned,” said Special Operations Group inspector general MN Dinesh. Meena, deputy superintendent of police, Hindoli.

Till now, the dalits in the village weren’t allowed to ride mares during wedding processions and Regar was the first to challenge this tradition, officials said.

The family of the feisty second year student knew that this decision was not without danger, as they had experienced in the past.

“Some time back, a dalit man wasn’t allowed to ride a mare in the village during a festival after opposition from upper caste villagers. The family told us that they feared for such a confrontation this time as well,” said Ajit Meghwanshi, station house officer, Hindoli police station.

What saved the day for the family was timely preventive action by the police.

“Police personnel from three nearby police stations were stationed near the house of Regar for the last

The special operation’s group (SOG) of the Rajasthan police on Sunday arrested the owner of a private coaching centre in Jaipur for being involved in leaking question papers.

“We have arrested Atishay Jain, owner of Lekha Coaching Centre in Gopalpura for leaking question papers. We have learnt that Jain leaked two question papers of the commerce stream to his students,” said superintendent of police (SOG) Sanjay Shrotriya.

He added that the SOG started suspecting Jain after it arrested another coaching centre owner CP Sindhi from Bandikui a few days ago.

“After questioning some students, who studied at Sindhi’s coaching centre, we learnt that Jain is also known to have given question papers,” he said.

Jain was booked under the Rajasthan Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 1992.

Inspector general of police (SOG) Dinesh MN said that the SOG found the question papers in Jain’s possession. “Jain had got the question papers much before the exam and had stored it on his mobile and laptop. We tallied the paper that he had with the actual one and found that both are the same,” said Dinesh MN.

He said that investigation is on to find out from where Jain procured the papers.

“He has named a few individuals and we are investigating the matter.”

Jain’s arrest comes a day after the SOG nabbed deputy registrar of Rajasthan University MC Gupta in connection with the case.

Ever since busting the question paper leak scam on April 17, the SOG has arrested more than 18 people, including senior professors.

Sixteen of the accused have been sent to judicial custody on Sunday after they were produced before a court.

“We had been closely tracking these individuals through different means of surveillance and closed in on them after we became certain of their involvement,” a senior SOG official said on the condition of anonymity.

Six papers have already been cancelled due to leaks and will be conducted again. If the teachers boycott the exams it’s going to create problems for students. EVER SINCE BUSTING THE QUESTION PAPER LEAK SCAM ON APRIL 17, THE SOG HAS ARRESTED MORE THAN 18 PEOPLE

few days. Several inspectors and the circle officer were present as the wedding procession was taken out during early Sunday morning,” said Meghwanshi.

The wedding procession reached its destination amidst tight security and police presence. No untoward incidents were reported.

“We had made all arrangements to quell any possible interference that could have worsened the law and order situation. But at the end, the procession went off peacefully,” said the SHO.

Surrounded by men and women in khaki, as Regar rode the mare with one of his younger relatives, one couldn’t have missed the triumphant glint in his eyes.

After all, he had successfully managed to challenge this discriminatory tradition, bringing a glimmer of hope for many scheduled caste families in the village.
