Generic medicine gets a boost: Shop comes up at SMS hospital

to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices for all, especially the poor, the state cooperativ­e department on Monday started its first Jan Aushadi Kendra (Public Drug Center) at SMS Hospital.

Inaugurati­ng the first such centre, cooperativ­e minister Ajay Singh Kilak said quality medicines, at 50 to 90% low prices will be available at the centre run by Rajasthan Cooperativ­e Consumer Federation (CONFED).

He said apart from public, pensioners and government employees will also be benefitted from the centre.

The centre will provide over 600 high quality medicines, 154 surgical and other products.

Medicines for diabetes, cardiac, blood pressure, vitamins, anti-biotics etc will be available. At present, around 124 types of medicines are being made available.

Kilak said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Vasundhara Raje are sensitive towards health of poor and according to their vision the initiative has been made.

“At present one such centre has been open, and soon other will be started across the state by consumer federation­s and district consumer stores,” he said.

CONFED administra­tor Veena Pradhan said medicines such as Amlodipine-5mg, which in market costs ₹23.30 for 10 tablets, will be available at store ₹2.68, similarly other drugs such as atenolol-50mg at ₹5.02; Ramipril (₹9.68); and losartan (₹5.04) etc are sold on affordable rates.
