Three people, including the driver of a bus were killed and at least 18 others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in, collided with a truck on the Delhi-Jaipur highway early on Sunday, police said.

Police said the bus driver was driving the vehicle at a high speed when the accident took place.

“The bus was coming from Delhi and heading towards Khatushyamji when the accident took place near Panchredi village. Just before a flyover, the bus rammed into the goods truck,” said Rajesh Kumar Yadav, sub inspector at Kotputli police station.

“Three people, including the driver, identified as, Johnny, were killed. The two other deceased, including a woman, have been identified as Radheshyam and Renu, both residents of Delhi,” he said.

A number of passengers were thrown off their seats due to the impact of the collision and many of them sustained minor injuries, police said.

“During investigation, we learnt that the bus driver was driving the vehicle at a high speed. A number of people, including the helper and conductor cautioned him and asked him to slow down but he didn’t pay any heed to their warnings,” Yadav said.

A case has been registered for rash driving against the deceased driver, he said. “The injured were rushed to a local hospital from where most of them were discharged after receiving first aid. The driver of the truck fled the spot after the accident.”
