RTU revises engineering syllabus to cater to industry needs
The Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) in Kota has revised its engineering curriculum to cater to the needs of industries and engineering sector after incorporating suggestions from the industries, teachers, alumni and affiliated colleges, an official said on Monday.
With more than half of the total 40,000 seats in engineering colleges affiliated to the RTU in Kota lying vacant in the first year of B Tech in 2016, now the varsity has improved and revised its curriculum to offer education to engineering graduates that is more employable and practical, said vice chancellor professor NP Kaushik. A number of changes have been introduced in the first year undergraduate degree programme of the B Tech from the current academic session to make curriculum more effective for students, he told HT.
“Since manual designs in engineering are not made nowadays so the RTU has decided to make only Computer aided designs in engineering study.”
First year engineering undergraduates will be able to choose two out of the four electives subjects, including basic electrical and electronics, civil, mechanical and mechanics engineering in the second semester, he said.
Examination pattern has also been revised and the syllabus has been prepared without units, Kaushik said. “Subjects like ‘human values’ and ‘environment and disaster management’ have also been introduced for the first time.”
