State Congress president Sachin Pilot on Tuesday said that incessant rains in Jalore, Pali, Sirohi and Barmer have robbed the people off their normal lives and have caused huge crop damage due to water logging. Over 45 people have died and thousands are living in relief camps.

Hitting out at the state BJP government he alleged that it is unfortunate that the government took stock after so much damage has been caused.

“The loss of life and property proves that the government did not take lessons from the last time and was not prepared for advanced disaster relief,” he said.

“The Prime Minister visited the flood affected areas in the neighbouring state Gujarat but neglected the areas in Rajasthan,” he added.

Pilot, who is on a three-day visit to flood affected areas, demanded that the government should provide more relief than what has been announced and compensation for cattle and goats should also be given .

The government, he said, should offer ₹50,000 and ₹10,000 assistance each for the deaths of cows and goats, respectively due to the floods. Also, assistance of ₹50,000 and ₹25,000 should be given for the damages caused to farms and crops (per hectare) respectively. The leader also claimed that the state’s Congress unit is offering all possible help to flood-hit people.
