Noble laureate Kailash Satyarthi on Tuesday suggested students to give up the habit of complaining about problems and invest energy and efforts to find solutions for them.

“I admit that there are problems in the country, but then they shall be used as opportunities to move forward,” said Satyarthi, in his keynote address at the Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University.

He suggested ‘3D’ formula — Dream, Discover and Do — for the students to overcome their problems.

The university organised its 8th convocation in Ajmer on Tuesday. Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh presided over the function.

A total of 35 gold medals, including a chancellor’s medal and 20 PhD degrees were distributed to the students. Girls outshined boys in the medal tally.

In Law, Management and Business Studies, 100% of the girls got the gold medal, while more than 50% of the girls bagged the medal in other faculties.

Earlier in the morning, the university administration celebrated the 23rd year of its foundation and distributed the Bhagwad Geeta and a Tulsi plant to each university employee.

“What else could be a better souvenir than the Geeta and Tulsi for the occasion, as one teaches you to be Karm Pradhan and Tulsi is medicinal herb that keeps your surroundings disease free,” said Prof Bhagirath Singh, the vice chancellor of the university.

He said the main aim of education is character building and making life self-reliant.

Singh criticised teachers who are not their doing duty honestly. He attacked the teachers who get evaluation of answers sheets by other people.

“It is like stabbing the students and pushing their future in dark,” he said.

Emphasising on importance of the Vedas, he said, “Vedas are treasure trove of knowledge.”

Underlining Swami Vivekananda’s opinion “Back to Vedas”, he asked the students to make them a household name.

He congratulated the girls for bagging 26 gold medals in comparison to the boys who got nine.

He also announced to install a 100-foot-high Tricolor and 20-foot-high statue of Swami Vivekananda on the university campus.

State higher education minister Kiran Maheshwari and state education minister Vasudev Devnani were also among those present at the event.
