‘I want to represent India at Olympics’
The transition from fastpaced football to a slower game of golf was tough, but 17-year old Dhairya Jain decided to prove himself.
In the last two years, he has won a number of championships and now dreams to represent India in the Olympics.
Jain recently represented India at Jakarta for the World Junior Golf Championship 2017.
A student of Class 12 of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya in Jaipur, an avid footballer, a couple of years back, Jain suffered a knee injury, following which he was advised to quit football by doctors.
“I was disappointed when I was not allowed to play any sport which physical exertion. , My father suggested I try golf,”Jain said. Although, it was a tough decision, he started playing golf under the guidance of his father, Rohit, a businessman.
Asked about balancing between studies and practicing golf, as this year he will be writing his board exams, Jain said, “Now golf is my passion, so first golf then studies.”
“My idol is Rory Mcilroy and I dream of representing India at the Olympics”.
In June, Jain and three others from different age categories represented India in the World Golf Championship after qualifying among the top 50 golfers from the country. The Indian team secured 11th position among 46 countries in the championship.
In December 2016, Jain took the pole-position in the Little Master Junior Golf Pro-Am qualifier event in Delhi, in which 30 golfers from across the country participated. In May, he stood second in the Indian Pro-Am championship where he competed with top professionals.
