A forest department team has managed to catch a male leopard from a cement factory in Sawai Madhopur on Friday.

On July 31, an elderly woman and her two grandsons were attacked by a female leopard in Khattupura village. The same day, forest officials caught the female leopard. They also noticed pug marks of two cubs and another leopard and constituted forest department teams to catch the other big cats.

On Wednesday, the forest officials installed a cage with a goat in an abandoned cement factory to catch the leopard. The factory has been locked out for a long time and the big cats were trying to hide inside.

“The teams caught a male leopard with the help of a cage and are now trying to catch the two cubs. The female leopard had been tranquillized by a special forest team earlier. The big cat has been sent to the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve after treatment on July 31,” director of Ranthambore National Park Bijo Joy said.

“We found the pugmarks of the big cats in the factory where the cage was installed,” Joy said.

In recent times, such incidents of big cats entering villages and attacking villagers are a common occurrence.

On January 11, a 55-year-old farmer was injured in a tiger attack when he was irrigating his field, which falls under Ranthambore National Park. The victim, Ramcharan Gurjar, a resident of Badhpura village, was rushed to the hospital.

More than a dozen such incidents were recorded in Kuddalpura, Sherpur, Khilchipur and other villages under Khandar sub-division.
