Meet T&D loss cut target or face action, firm warns engineers
The Jaipur discom has warned its executive engineers of “strict action” if they fail to fulfil the target to reduce the transmission and distribution (T&D) losses in their area.
The discom, formally known as Jaipur Vidhyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL), has set a target for them to reduce the T&D losses by 7 percent before April 1, 2018.
“The responsibility to reduce T&D losses in cities is given to (executive) engineers – either they fulfil the targets by March 2018 or else strict action will be taken against them,” said RG Gupta, managing director, JVVNL, on Monday.
He was reviewing the T&D losses following implementation of the loss reduction programme and vigilance action.
Addressing the discom executive engineers through video conference, Gupta directed them to work on feeder-wise programme to reduce the losses by 15% in the given timeframe.
The JVVNL takes care of power distribution in 12 districts of Rajasthan. The districts are Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Kota, Bundi, Baran, Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk and Karauli.
The discom suffered average T&D loss of 27% in 2016-17, which was even higher at 31% in 2015-16.
The discom chief said the company hopes to reduce the T&D losses further by replicating the Bithur model.
“Under JVVNL, there are around 5,000 rural feeders where work is undergoing on Bithur model to curb the losses,” Gupta said. HTC
