Jaipur hotel owner held for drink driving
Jyoti Nagar police on Sunday impounded a luxury car driven by a 29-year-old hotel owner from Jaipur in an inebriated state.
The police said that around 2 am, a Mercedes was spotted by the officers, who were out for night patrolling. “Our team intercepted the two-seater luxury car, estimated to be worth ₹2 crore. After questioning the man at the wheel, we suspected that he was in an inebriated state,” said Raghuveer Singh Bhati, station house officer, Jyoti Nagar police station.
A breathalyzer test confirmed that Aditya Vijayvargiya (29) was drunk, Bhati said.
“Aditya’s had consumed alcohol beyond the permissible limit. We have confiscated the car and a case has been registered against him under section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act,” he added. Vijayvargiya owns a hotel near Vidhayakpuri area.
“We are regularly barricading and checking vehicles during night patrolling to curb cases of drunk driving. The accused was caught during one such checking,” said the SHO.
Cases of drunken driving have resulted in deaths of several people in the city. Last year on July 1, a BMW car, allegedly being driven by Siddharth Maharia, son of independent MLA Nandkishor Maharia, had rammed into an auto-rickshaw killing three people and injuring others, including policemen.
Siddharth was arrested, but he later denied that he was driving the car.
