Barmer refinery to get tanker water
The upcoming HPCL refinery at Pachpadra in Barmer district will initially be supplied water through tankers from the nearby Nagana village.
With the construction work scheduled to start soon, the water resources department is making arrangements for supplying water through tankers from the Nagana water filling station, located about 47 km away from the refinery site.
“The company needs about 5 million litres per day (MLD) water for the construction work and was given two options for supplying water,” a water resources department official said.
The options included supplying water through tankers or laying a 47-km pipeline at a cost of about ₹50 crore. Once the refinery is constructed, a pipeline will be constructed from Nachna in Jaisalmer district for supplying water for the project from the Indira Gandhi Canal.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has deposited ₹1.37 crore with the water resources department for supplying water through tankers and the same will start within a month.
Last week, the administration handed over 11,418-bigha (4,567 acre) land to HPCL for the construction of refinery after signing a lease deed agreement. The state government has directed all the departments to coordinate with HPCL and fulfil every requirement. Tenders have been floated for development of the basic infrastructure including roads. The company is also in talks with BSNL for the telecommunications network.
In April this year, the Rajasthan government inked a joint venture agreement with HPCL for the oil refinery in Barmer. In the joint venture company, named ‘HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited’, HPCL will hold 74% stake and the state government 26%.
