FLY HIGH 2 flights from Jaisalmer will add to recent airline services from Bikaner and Kota

Air connectivity from Rajasthan has taken a big leap in the past three months with flights starting from smaller cities such as Bikaner and Kota. It will further get enhanced with a private airline launching flights from Jaisalmer from October 29.

“Spicejet will launch two flights from Jaisalmer – one to Delhi and another to Jaipur and Udaipur. All preparations have been completed for the inaugural launch,” Jaisalmer airport director Rajiv Punecha said.

The Rajasthan government is also planning to launch flights from Sawai Madhopur to increase the footfall at the famous tiger reserve. A proposal to launch Delhi-Sawai Madhopur flight is pending with the directorate of civil aviation. At present, the nearest airport is in Jaipur, which is 170 km away.

The ongoing construction work at Kishangarh (Ajmer) airport is over and it will be ready for operations by the month end, officials said. About 100 km from Jaipur, the airport will cater not just to Kishangarh but also Ajmer and Pushkar that see a massive footfall of tourists, who visit the Ajmer Sharif Dargah and the annual Pushkar fair.

Inter and intra-state air services between Kota-Jaipur-Delhi, Delhi-Kishangarh, GanganagarJaipur-Delhi and Jodhpur-Ahmedabad too have been proposed.

Rajasthan always had good road connectivity between its cities, but air connectivity has improved recently with the launch of the Union government’s regional air connectivity scheme.

Private airlines will also launch special festive flights from Jaipur from October. People planning to visit Vaishno Devi temple will now have the option of taking a flight from Jaipur to Jammu. The flight will start from October 3.

The flight (SG-2941) will depart from Jaipur at 8.05 am every Sunday. The return flight (SG-2942) will depart from Jammu every day at 4.25 pm and reach Jaipur at 6.05 pm.

In July this year, Jet Airways launched new flights to Dehradun, Indore, Lucknow, Udaipur, Guwahati and Visakhapatnam.

Jaipur airport has registered 24% rise in passenger traffic in 2016-17 as compared to the previous year with flight movements increasing by 28%. The operations at Jaipur airport terminal building will soon be handed over to a private player. Seven firms have bid for running the terminal building and other operations at the airport.
