Swaraj: B’desh gets priority among neighbours
External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday said Bangladesh gets priority among all of India’s neighbours and bilateral ties were moving ahead at a fast pace.
Swaraj also laid emphasis on investing in youth ,saying they are the future leaders of the two nations. She was addressing a programme after inauguration of the Chancery Complex of the Indian High Commission and 15 other projects in Bangladesh funded by India at a cost of Tk 71.64 crore.
Bangladesh foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, health minister Mohammed Nasim, environment and forests minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Prime Minister’s political affairs adviser HT Imam, foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque, and Indian high commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla were present on the occasion.
Swaraj, who arrived here on Sunday, held the Fourth Joint Consultative Commission meeting with her Bangladesh counterpart Mahmood Ali and reviewed bilateral ties.
India will resolve all irritants in ties with Bangladesh with sincerity, Swaraj also said.
She said relations between the neighbours are now outstanding, and that both countries are working to resolve irritants in the spirit of “friendly relations and with right intention”.
She did not specify the nature of the issues but the water sharing of common rivers, particularly the Teesta, has long been pending between the two neighbours. China Philippines
