The second day of Rajasthan government’s Digifest 2018 witnessed a huge turnout for Hackathon 4.0, a 36-hour nonstop coding marathon. Celebrating the third edition of its technological festival and IT Day, the Rajasthan government has organised a number of events from March 18 to 21 in Jaipur to attract technology professionals.

“We received a total of 17,000 entries, out of which we have shortlisted 5,800 people for Hackathon, which is a coding competition. In addition to it, 670 participants are going to be a part of Green-a-Thon, which is a competition to bring forward ideas related to green energy or sustainability development,” one of the organisers said.

The competition will require the participating coders, developers and designers to work on various themes, including Bhamashah and e-Mitra.

Calling it the World’s Biggest Hackathon, the government has made arrangements for lodging of the participants in Rajasthan College.

While many participants appreciated the facilities, some said they were not up to the mark.

“It is quite a big campus so there was a problem with the entry. Washroom sanitation is also an issue,” Prachi Singh, a participant from Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering, Delhi, said.

The job fair organised at Commerce College features 130 companies looking for prospective employees.

The organisers said that the fair will provide jobs to over 6,500 undergraduates, graduates and technical professionals. While most job seekers appreciated the opportunity to connect directly with the companies, some pointed out a few discrepancies.

“Many IT companies are not closing the deal here itself. They are not giving offer letters right now. They said that they will get back to us in a week or two,” Kanha Ram Yadav, a job-seeker, said. Participants also complained about recruiters offering less money.
