Council (JAC) has postponed two of its intermediate exams as a precautionary measure sensing possibilities of ‘disturbance’ in parts of state after Ramnavami, JAC officials said on Monday.

The exams scheduled on March 26 and March 27 have been postponed to April 2 and April 3 respectively. Ramnavami will be celebrated across the state on March 25, with celebrants taking out processions and showcasing combat skills on the roads of cities and villages here. Class 12 students had their Mathematics and Statistics papers on March 26 and Anthropology on March 27.

“After consulting local education officials in parts of Hazaribag and East Singbhum, we decided to postpone the exams scheduled right after Ramnavami. Many parts of the state witness disturbance for a couple of days after Ramnavami, so, we took the decision for safety and convenience of students,” said JAC chairperson Arvind Singh.

Incidents of communal tension have been reported in the past years from parts of Hazaribag and Jamshedpur during Ramnavami festivities. In April 2016, curfew was imposed in Hazaribag after communal clashes during Ramnavami. Jamshedpur too witnessed a few cases of clashes between two groups during Ramnavami processions last year, police said.

The district administrations too have issued strict guidelines to ensure peaceful Ramnavami celebrations in the cities here.

The Ranchi police have issued circular asking procession organisers not to play objectionable songs and maintain a pre-decided time table for the procession. The police have also requested peace committee members to be on the streets during the processions.

A list of people participating in the Akharas has also been prepared and submitted with the concerned police stations.

“Students who have exams after Ramnavami may face problems in case there are clashes in their areas. The decision was taken to ensure that no student misses his exam due to any such tension,” said a JAC official requesting anonymity. The board exams for around 3,20,000 Class 12 students under Jharkhand board began on March 8.
