‘Salah giving Liverpool confidence’

Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring exploits this season are having a similarly positive impact at Liverpool to that of Luis Suarez had when he was at Anfield, according to club captain Jordan Henderson.

Manager Jurgen Klopp said Salah was close to the same level as Lionel Messi after the Egyptian scored four goals in 5-0 league win over Watford, taking his tally to 36 goals in 41 games.

The 25-year-old’s prolific debut season has also led to comparisons with Suarez.

“They are both fantastic players in their own right and you can’t compare them. They are different players. I know they score a lot of goals and both work hard off the ball but it is very difficult to make that comparison.

“But Mo this season has been unbelievable. He is doing it every week, without fail,” Henderson said.

LAZIO FANS PROTEST

Hundreds of Lazio supporters demonstrated in front of the headquarters of the Italian football federation (FIGC) in Rome, saying their team have been victims of numerous mistakes by referees and the video assistant referee (VAR).

Photographs showed the fans displaying banners which read, among other things, “Respect” and “VARgogna” - a play on the Italian word “vergogna”, meaning disgrace.

LIVERPOOL:

‘WE NEED TO FOCUS’

Swansea City players must use the break to rest and recharge before entering a crucial phase hoping to secure their Premier League status for the next season, defender Kyle Bartley has said.

“We have to focus on the Premier League now and make sure we get the right amount of points to stay up,” Bartley said.

“There are a few tired minds and bodies. The players have played a lot of minutes, so it’s time to recharge...

“We’ve got eight cup finals so, hopefully, we can remain confident and go into our next match trying to get three points.”
