BANGLADESHI MAN HELD WITH AADHAAR CARD IN U’KHAND
Police in Uttarakhand are probing the possibility of an organised racket dealing with forged documents after a Bangladeshi national was found to have acquired an Aadhar card in Dehradun, investigators said on Tuesday.
Alok Mukherjee, 19, a resident of Jashore district in Bangladesh, was arrested on Sunday from the outskirts of Dehradun during a routine verification drive.
Mukherjee had come to India in October last year on a threemonth tourist visa and landed up in a village near Dehradun.
The 12-digit Aadhar number is a proof of identity and is required for getting a host of services including benefits of government social schemes.
Police said Mukherjee managed to acquire an Aadhar card with the help of one Mukul Majumdar, a self-styled doctor who was running an illegal clinic at Bhagwanpur village.
Majumdar, who was also arrested, is from West Bengal’s Nadia, a district bordering Bangladesh.
“Accused Alok used to help Majumdar in his clinic. The latter facilitated forged documents for him and helped in getting an Aadhar card,” said Naresh Rathore, officer in-charge of Sahaspur police station.
“We are investigating if some more people have obtained Aadhar cards on forged documents.
