Police, army jawan, 3 terrorists killed

SRINAGAR: POLICE OFFICER LATIF GOJRI SUCCUMBED TO INJURIES HE SUFFERED IN AN ENCOUNTER IN A FOREST IN TRAL

A policeman and an army jawan died in an encounter with terrorists in south Kashmir on Tuesday, said officials.

“All three JEM (Jaish-e-Mohammed) terrorists eliminated by joint team of SF,” SP Vaid, director general of state police, tweeted.

A joint operation was started by the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), state police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Lam forest area of Tral following informatio­n about the presence of militants there.

Police officer Latif Gojri succumbed to injuries he suffered in an encounter in a forest in Tral in Awantipura police district. “We stand by with the family of our martyr who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” said a police spokespers­on.

Vaid also said on Twitter: “Our tribute to army jawan Ajay Kumar who attained martyrdom at Tral today in the line of duty.” Sepoy Ajay Kumar of 42 RR, who was injured in the initial firing exchange, succumbed to his injuries at Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Badami Bagh Cantonment area here.

On April 1, as many as 13 militants, four civilians and three soldiers were killed and more than 70 protesters injured in three separate gunfights in south Kashmir. On April 11, four civilians and a soldier were killed in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district even as two militants escaped.
