FOUR PROBES ON IN VARANASI, CENTRE LIKELY TO SEND TEAM
Four teams are carrying out investigations into the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi that claimed 15 lives on Tuesday, officials said, adding that a central team was likely to visit the site on Friday and submit its report to the PMO.
“Four teams are already carrying out investigations on ground zero. Another team constituted by the central government is likely to reach Varanasi tomorrow (Friday) to conduct a separate probe. It will submit its report to the Prime Minister’s office (PMO),” a senior district administration official, who did not wish to be named, said.
He said the PMO was keeping a close watch on all the investigations being carried out in the mishap.
“The PMO will not only review the probe report of the central team but also of all others committees,” he added.
Vinay Kumar Gupta, an expert in overbridge construction technology, is leading a team of experts from the Centre and is likely to reach Varanasi on Friday.
Meanwhile, a team of forensic experts from the city unit visited the narrow stretch of the road between Cantonment railway station and the under-construction Lahartara overbridge on Thursday to collect more samples.
Another team constituted by district magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra is also carrying out probe at the site of mishap.
