- HT Correspondent htraj@hindustantimes.com

police inaction, a family in Barmer has pleaded for euthanasia. The family of a rape victim, a resident of Siwana town in Barmer, on Tuesday met the district collector and gave him a memorandum and demanded permission for euthanasia. The police, however, have a completely different version.

In the memorandum, the rape victim’s father said that on January 14 this year the accused, Prabhuram, had kidnapped his daughter and taken her to Sanchore. He alleged that accused kidnapped his daughter and kept her for three days and raped her repeatedly. The father said that after his daughter managed to escape, he lodged a police complaint at the Siwana police station. He alleged that the police had not lodged his complaint, after which his daughter approached the local court on April 7, which directed the police to lodge the case.

The victim’s father alleged that despite the court’s order, the police have not taken any action. He alleged that the accused is threatening his family. He said that due to harassment by the police, his family is disturbed.

Amar Singh Rathore, SHO of Siwana police station, said that about a year ago the complainant had fixed his daughter’s engagement with Prabhuram. According to Rathore, after the engagement, the girl and Prabhuram were in contact. He said that in January the girl eloped with him.

The girl’s father then filed a missing person report and later withdrew it after coming to a compromise with Prabhuram’s family. The police said after that the girl stayed at Prabhuram’s home for about a month without marrying him. The police said in April the victim lodged a case of kidnapping and rape. The case has been registered under sections 365, 368 and 376 of IPC.

Rathore said that no action has been taken as the victim has neither registered the statement nor produced his daughter for a medical examination.
