‘Instead of tricolour, two colours are being strengthen­ed’

All India Congress Seva Dal chief organiser Lalji Desai said the country is going through tough times, as the constituti­on and freedom of speech is “being attacked”, which “needs to be stopped”.

He was addressing media persons at state Congress office in Jaipur on Tuesday

Desai said society is being divided in the name of religion, caste, language and state.

“Instead of tricolour, two colours are being strengthen­ed for capitalist­s and others,” he said, in an apparent reference to saffron and green colour flag of the BJP.

Talking about the organisati­onal activities, he said, “Seva Dal is a preparing for the upcoming elections where in addition to the nation and organisati­on building, and serving the country, the Seva Dal will also plan strategies.”

“For Seva Dal, it is Congress which is contesting elections and not individual­s.”

Three people were rescued from the rubble after a three-storey building, located on Sardarpura road collapsed on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 12.05 in the afternoon, when the threestore­y building collapsed. There was a department­al store on the ground floor where three people were trapped. Police said that there was some digging work that led to the weakening of the foundation. There was a major traffic jam on Sardarpura road after the incident. Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and municipal team started rescue operations.

The team removed the debris so that people trapped could be rescued. After nearly an hour of operation, rescue team members pulled out Sanjay Kankria, Madhosingh and another young man from the rubble.

On receiving the informatio­n, several officers, including district collector Dr Ravi Surpur, police commission­er Ashok Rathore, mayor Ghanshyam Ojha and other officers reached the spot. A team of doctors also rushed to the site of the incident.

Last year, at least 25 people were killed when a boundary wall of a marriage home collapsed amid a heavy storm in Bharatpur. HTC involving youth with Seva Dal at block and district level – the experience­d workers will work as observer and the youth will execute plans.

When asked if Seva Dal would seek tickets for its workers, Desai said, “We do not work for ticket. Seva Dal worker has always been on important post in the party organisati­on.”

“However, wherever we will have strong contenders for the seat, they be recommende­d.”

He said Seva Dal will go hi-tech soon.

“Sam Pitroda is updating Seva Dal with technology. We will now have our database and mobile applicatio­n. Our work will be shared on social media.”

Pitroda is the chairman of Overseas Congress, Department of the Indian National Congress.

On the Seva Dal’s plan to counter Rashtriya Swayamseva­k Sangh (RSS), Desai said, “We do not need to compete with RSS…we are poles apart.”

“They train to lie, divide, animosity and riot, whereas we believe in spreading peace, brotherhoo­d, unity and truth.”
