In view of large outflow of workers to countries emigration check required (ECR) countries, the Rajasthan government is now working on providing safe and legal immigration of workforce.

According to a report published by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India has seen a huge outflow of workers to ECR countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Malaysia and Bahrain with around 48,129 workers of Rajasthani origin alone going overseas in 2014, around 46,000 in 2015 and more than 35,172 in the year 2016.

Rajasthan Livelihood and Development Corporation (RSLDC) with the support of Ministry of External Affairs, India Centre for Migration (ICM, and International Organization for Migration (IOM) conducted a two-day workshop in Jaipur.

The workshop — Awareness Generation on Migration and Pre-Departure Orientation — largely focused on creating awareness among participant trainees on the dynamics of labour migration between Rajasthan and the Gulf States and Malaysia.

Rajesh Yadav, secretary, skills, employment and entrepreneurship said, “Churu, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur and Sikar are the top five districts of Rajasthan having majority of workers migrating overseas for jobs in trades related to construction, driving, etc. Promoting safe and legal migration of such workforce thus becomes a priority for the government.”

ChiefSecretaryDBGuptasaid, “India’s diaspora is the largest in the world. Rajasthan has a huge outflow of majorly unskilled and semi-skilled labourers. These workers often face a lot of problems and are exploited due to lack of knowledge and awareness overseas.”

“It thus becomes imperative for the state to protect their rights. The RSLDC thus joined hands with MEA and ICM to impart training to these workers and to create awareness about safe and legal migration so that their rights can be protectedeven in foreign countries.”
