4 new flights from August, one from July to improve air connectivity from Jaipur
connectivity from Jaipur is set to improve with four new flights from August and one new flight from July.
Indigo Airlines will launch new flights to Varanasi, Lucknow, Surat and Bengaluru while Jet Airways will launch a new flight to Delhi from July 22.
At present, there is one direct flight each for Surat and Varanasi and these will go up to two from August. The current four flights to Lucknow will increase to four and the number of flights to Bangalore will rise to eight.
The Delhi-Jaipur flight 9W-755 will arrive at Jaipur at 9.30 pm and later the flight 9W-855 will depart at 10.40 pm.
Flight number 6E-941 will depart for Surat at 1.40 pm from August 15, while flight 6E-952 will leave for Varanasi at 1.40 pm from August 16 and flight 6E-454 will depart for Lucknow at 6.25 pm from August 9. The new flight for Bengaluru (flight 6E-839) will depart at 11.55 pm from August 5.
The passenger load at Jaipur airport has doubled in the last five years thereby putting a severe strain on resources. Things are expected to ease up this September when Terminal 1 becomes operational and the total number of conveyors on the arrival side of Terminal 2 goes up to five from the existing two.
Work on the new terminal building at Jaipur International Airport is likely to begin in December. This new terminal is scheduled to be completed in three years.
The project management consultant for the Rs 1400 crore project is Dorsch Consult (India) Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of Germany-based Dorsch group.
At present, work is underway for building new taxiways and parking aprons. Once the works are completed, it will enable landing of E-category “jumbo jet” planes. The Jaipur airport has also been designated for the landing of flights that are diverted from New Delhi. In 2017-18, the Jaipur airport registered passenger traffic of 4.3 million.
