Waterlogging, potholed roads give commuters a hard time
The Tuesday’s rains have created mess in Jaipur, as many areas of the city are still waterlogged and roads have developed potholes. Amid all the chaos, commuters have been left high and dry.
Lanes in Mansarovar area were filled with water on Wednesday. People were finding it difficult to walk on waterlogged roads in Swarna Path area of Mansarovar. “The road in front of my house was made in 1995 and after that patchwork was done only once in these many years,” said Harish Kumar, a resident of the area, while speaking about the road condition.
A lane opposite Calgiri Hospital in Malviya Nagar was broken and full of potholes. Rahul Singh, a resident of the area, said, “Government agencies only repair the main roads and not the lanes and by-lanes.”
Commenting on the potholed roads in Barkat Nagar area, Satish Maheshwari, a resident of the area, said, “These broken roads will not be repaired till Diwali and till then people have to suffer. This has been the trend every year.” However, in an afterthought, he added, “But this time, due to assembly elections by the end of this year, it could be possible that government repairs the road on time to get votes.”
Naresh Mathur, a resident of Govind Nagar area on Ajmer Road, said, “There is no proper exit for water on the roads, due to which after rains water-logging is there for many days. As a result, roads get damaged and develop

Meanwhile, Sanganer MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari has written a letter to the Jaipur Municipal Corporation commissioner about the water-logging in the main market and nearby areas after the rains and the problems faced by the local people. “The drains are clogged; as a result water remains stagnant,” he said. Tiwari has also asked the Jaipur Development Authority commissioner and district collector to get the ongoing construction works at Sanganer market completed soon and develop drainage system.
Additional chief secretary, urban development, housing and local self government department, PK Goyal has directed the department officials to ask their subordinate engineers to do physical verification of all roads, lanes and colonies personally every 10 days, where there are rain-related problems.
During their inspection, if they find broken roads, potholes, broken electric wires and poles, blocked sewerage and water lines, open manholes, potholes filled with water, they should ensure that these are repaired within three days, he ordered.
He has also directed the officials to clean the drains immediately and lift the sludge and if necessary, repair the drains.
Jaipur Municipal Corporation mayor Ashok Lahoty on Tuesday made a sudden inspection of Sanagner and Mansarovar area and took stock of the water-logging problem. He directed the corporation’s executive engineer to make proper arrangements to drain out the water.
“I have spoken to Jaipur Development commissioner and directed to resolve the problems with coordination of JMC and JDA,” he said.
