PML-N, PPP set to form opposition alliance in Pak
Pakistan’s two major parties – the PML-N and PPP – are set to enter into an opposition alliance even as cricketer-turnedpolitician Imran Khan said on Monday that he would take oath as prime minister on August 11.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman told newly elected lawmakers from KhyberPakhtunkhwa in Islamabad that it was a matter of time before the party announced its government at the centre, Radio Pakistan reported.
Though PTI has emerged the single largest party in the National Assembly after the polls, final results issued by the Election Commission show that the party is still short of numbers to form government independently.
To meet the required number of votes, the PTI leadership has approached the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan

(MQM-P), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), PML-Quaid (PML-Q), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and independents.
The PML-N and PPP have agreed on formulating a “coordinated joint strategy” if the PTI forms government at the centre.
“It was an ice-breaker,” senior PML-N leader Mushahid Hussain Sayed said when he was asked by reporters about the outcome of a meeting held by the two parties in Islamabad. “It was a very good meeting and you can call it a meeting of the minds. Both sides completely reject the election results.”
PPP spokesperson Sherry Rehman said the two parties had urged other parties not to boycott Parliament because by “vacating the space we will be providing a walkover” to the PTI.
