Students cry foul over SC/ST admissions in RU
Students have raised apprehensions over the time duration given by the University of Rajasthan to submit applications for the admission on seats reserved for the SC/ST candidates lying vacant in M Phil and Ph D programmes.
According to the notification issued by the university on August 31, 2018, a few seats reserved for the SC/ST candi- dates in M Phil and Ph D programmes are lying vacant. The SC/ST candidates who qualified MPAT-2017 examination, but could not take admission due to any reason may submit their application for admission in the office of the convener, MPAT2017, within one week, otherwise the vacant seats will be filled by the General and OBC candidates, it stated.
The duration to file the admission application is from August 31, 2018 to September 6, 2018.
Students said that they would actually be getting two and a half days to file the applications, as August 31 and September 1 had been non-working days due to the students’ union elections, September 2 was Sunday, while Janamashthmi falls on Monday (September 3). Apart from that, September 4 will be a half-day working in the university.
“The university does not seem to be willing to admit SC/ST candidates. I am an aspirant for Ph D admission and time provided to file the application is really less,” said Jaishree Meena, a student of the university.
Ex-RUSU general secretary Narsi Kirad alleged the university administration works according to its own whims and fancies.
Convener, MPAT, Deepak Bhatnagar said although formal deadline for the submitting applications is one week from August 31, 2018, the office will accept applications for two more days.
